Cooperative Autonomic Management in Dynamic Distributed Systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
The centralized management of large distributed systems is often impractical, particularly when the both the topology and status of the system change dynamically. This paper proposes an approach to application-centric selfmanagement in large distributed systems consisting of a collection of autonomic components that join and leave the system dynamically. Cooperative autonomic components self-organize into a dynamically created overlay network. Through local information sharing with neighbors, each component gains access to global information as needed for optimizing performance of applications. The approach has been validated and evaluated by developing a decentralized autonomic system consisting of multiple autonomic application managers previously developed for the In-VIGO grid-computing system. Using analytical results from complex random network and measurements done in a prototype system, we demonstrate the robustness, self-organization and adaptability of our approach, both theoretically and experimentally.

The increasing complexity of computer systems makes their administration even more tedious and error-prone. A general approach to this problem consists in building autonomic systems that are able to manage themselves and to handle changes of their state and their environment. While energy becomes even more scarce and expensive, the optimization of computer systems is an essential management fie...
متن کاملMultilevel and Coordinated Self-management in Autonomic Systems based on Service Bus
Modern dynamic distributed systems require to dynamically take into account at runtime the changes in users’ needs and the execution environment variations in order to improve the quality of service. The evolution of distributed systems, through the smart management of their properties and the extension of the existing integration infrastructures, becomes a necessity. Autonomic computing allows...
متن کاملThe world of autonomous distributed systems
Todays world is dynamic, distributed and connected in time, space and tasks. Systems, both human and automated, interact continuously in highly dynamic environments. Some connections are relatively stable, others change very frequently, as systems and their needs change. Virtual organisations of autonomous systems are formed/emerge on the basis of characteristics such as availability, reliabili...
متن کاملA Component Based Programming Framework for Autonomic Applications
The emergence of pervasive wide-area distributed computing environments, such as pervasive information systems and computational Grids, has enabled new generations of applications that are based on seamless access, aggregation and interaction. However, the inherent complexity, heterogeneity and dynamism of these systems require a change in how the applications are developed and managed. In this...
متن کاملSolving a Two-Period Cooperative Advertising Problem Using Dynamic Programming
Cooperative advertising is a cost-sharing mechanism in which a part of retailers' advertising investments are financed by the manufacturers. In recent years, investment among advertising options has become a difficult marketing issue. In this paper, the cooperative advertising problem with advertising options is investigated in a two-period horizon in which the market share in the second period...
